You’ve probably heard the old saying ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for life’.  This blog is about giving you all the tools you need to learn to fish.

This blog is aimed at service businesses – businesses that sell knowledge or information. 

You may be an Internet marketer, or an accountant or lawyer.  You may even be a financial planner like me.  The thing we have in common is that the product we sell is largely intangible.  And when a product is intangible, clients make their buying decisions in many different (and sometimes irrational) ways.

The idea of this blog is not just to provide a list of ‘How To’s’, but to explain ‘why’ certain marketing ideas and concepts work – teaching you to fish rather than just giving you fish! 

I’ve worked in the financial planning industry since 1995 and have seen a lot of marketing ideas – some that work well and others that have failed miserably.  I’ve spent the past few years studying an MBA and I’ve learnt so much from that experience about business marketing and strategy.  I now run a financial planning business, and many of the articles I write here are based on things I experience in my business.

This blog is an opportunity for me to help others who run a service business.  Together we can explore different ideas that can help us market our businesses better, and provide a better service to our clients.
